Identify Pony Problems and Conditions
Your pony is sticky and its body may have grown hard:
This is a result of plasticizer breakdown in the plastic that your pony is made of. Plasticizer is an ingredient that gives pony plastic a soft, squishy feel and when it eventually breaks down with time, the plasticizer will leak out of pony and its body will grow hard. Your pony has small or large brown dots:
This is known as "pony cancer." This is likely the result of the plastic breaking down due to age. There is no cure for pony cancer, but the spot can be bleached with chemicals to a lighter shade. |
Your pony has chew marks:
A rodent, odd child, or chupacabra has likely chewed on your pony.

Your pony is covered with colorful perhaps neon blobs
This is called regrind. It is believed that Hasbro mixed recycled plastics when they made some ponies and regrind is another result of the pony's plastic breaking down and the different colored plastic separates. There is unfortunately no cure and you can't prevent it from spreading, although it won't spread to other ponies.

Your pony has irregular highlight marks:
Known as "saddle sores" because the dye in plastic saddles and bridles bleed on pony bodies. In G3 ponies, outfits have been known to bleed onto bodies. Parts of your pony are covered in tiny black dots:
Collectors call this condition "smooze" like the purple smooze in the 1986 movie. It is likely a kind of mold or ingrained dirt that commonly affects the tips of ears, mouths, and hooves. |
The base of your pony's tail is caked with reddish-brown gunk:
This is tail rust and it is caused by the metal washer which holds the tail in place inside the body. If the pony spent too much time in water (pools or bath tubs) or humid places (basements) the moisture on the washer will cause it to rust and that rust will grow into the tail.
